Waste Water Treatment plants produce enormous volumes of sludge. The most economical and environmental friendly method to get rid of the sludge is to use it as fuel in a power- and/-or heating plant. The burning process demands that the water content is reduced from around 70% to close to 10%. To cool the air in the drying process a scrubber system is mainly used. The system is both critical for clogging and consumes large amounts of water (25 l/h per kW cooling effect).
AirCross is the first efficient and compact air heat exchanger to be available. With AirCross up to 90% of the water in the recirculating drying air condenses in the heat exchanger. The fantastic performance is used by Krüger A/S / Veolia Water Systems, (a world-leading supplier of technology for fresh- and waste water treatment), by Haapavesi, Finland in their Biocon™ sludge drying system. The dried sludge is mixed with waste wood and used as fuel in the local power plant. Due to the good experience Krüger is planning to, in other Biocon™-systems, replace other inferior, less efficient heat exchangers with AirCross.
